News from Evenwood Club
2018 Club Leader Report
Evenwood has had a very good, lively year. We have had several trips and some interesting speakers.
Members have enjoyed some excellent meals at Woodham Golf Club and the Tea Shop at Staindrop, which does the best pavlova ever - it has so much fruit in it I count it as one of my 5 a day!
We had a great trip to Strikes, where the members got a lot of extra treats for Christmas. I cannot explain how much the members enjoy having access to shops like this - all one level, variety of goods on sale and help if required.
We are lucky at Evenwood to have two local primary schools and each year the staff from both Ramshaw and Evenwood Primary Schools bring their children to sing to the members at Christmas. This forms a vital part of our celebrations and it is very good experience for the children. We all appreciate this effort on the parts of the schools because it is often their busiest time of year.
This year all the members were lucky to receive a food gift from S and A Builders Merchants in Barnard Castle. A lot of thought had been put into these gifts and they were ideal for people living on their own. The members appreciated the thought behind the gift and also enjoyed talking with the people from the store.
I have a very small dedicated team of volunteers at Evenwood - some of whom turn up every week to help. It is hard work for them, when there are so few of them and both the members and I appreciate their support.
We continue to have our monthly raffle, which helps to support our trips and activities.
Tracey has provided us with excellent food throughout the year, but thanks also to Barbara who covered for a while and provided very good food.
Thank you to the Tracy and Pat in the office for their quiet efficiency and to Madeleine, in her role as community worker, who helps the members with any problems they may have. We are also aware of the hard work the Trustees put in behind the scenes, to ensure we have sufficient funding to help provide this vital service to some very lonely and isolated people.
