Our Aim

The primary aim of the Association is to provide a level of care for, amongst others, the elderly, frail and disabled in Teesdale who are considered to be geographically or socially isolated so that, with the assistance of the Association, they may continue to lead independent lives in their own homes.

News from the Clubs

October

The Friends of Cotherstone Lunch Club organised a Tea Dance at the village hall on the 3rd October . This was an event attended both Evenwood and Cotherstone members. As the pictures show it was enjoyed by all, so much so that a similar event was organised at Staindrop at which three clubs were represented - Staindrop, Cotherstone and Evenwood. This was again a fantastic afternoon enjoyed by all who attended and the Association now faces demands from members for more similar events.

Four of the lunch clubs had wonderful performances from Live Music Now! who received funding from the TOPS fund.  Chris and Amy are two very accomplished performers who play the accordion and the violin.  Amy also does clog dancing, which is very entertaining to watch.  In deference to all the village halls she brings her own wooden floor with her as her feet move so quickly sparks can fly!!  The duo are very interactive and many of the members enjoyed playing some percussion instruments – although we all gave the clog dancing a miss!

Other excellent crafts people have been Emma Hedley and Baruch Rosengarten, provided by Artworks.  Emma gave a fascinating interactive jewellery talk, explaining how she got into jewellery making and Baruch gave an interesting, lively demonstration on felt making.

Carole Vayro (one of our lunch club leaders ) organised an amazing tea dance at the Scarth Hall, Staindrop.  Morris and Jean Forster conducted the proceedings and led the dancing.  We had a tremendous time – possibly more Ann Widdicombe than Holly Valance but a brilliant time none the less!  We tried them all from the St Bernards Waltz to the "Birdie Song" (which is more complex than you might think!).  We were fortunate enough to get some funding for transport from the TAP provided through the Mid-Tees partnership.

Carole has also taken some clubs to Tesco at West Auckland so that they can do their Christmas shopping.  Tesco provided us all with tea and mince pies and also gave us a £20 food voucher.  This is a lovely opportunity for people who may never get to the big supermarkets to have a look around – we came home with an array of pyjamas, Christmas bells, mince pies and a mobile phone!!

We are now looking forward to all our Christmas parties and celebrations, including some performances from the local primary schools.
