2018 Club Leader Report

Well here we are after another busy year. We continue to run at full capacity with a waiting list, which shows if nothing else that we must be doing something right! It's a lovely club with a smashing atmosphere

We've had various folk come to the lunch club this year, whether information gathering or information giving. The local community police have been in to give a talk on safety at home, especially important during the dark nights of autumn and winter. They also came with freebies which of course goes down well!

Ben Tinkler, Operations Project Officer/Wellbeing Practitioner (NHS/PCP) has recently joined us for organised games and activities. The first week he brought the new age kurling which was very well received. I can see a definite competitive streak in some of our members! Hopefully more fun and games to come.

We had Jean Ogilvy out earlier in the year who was very well received. So lovely to hear our members join in the 40's sing-along and reminisce the times when they were younger.

Outing to the Duke of York, FirtreeWe've had three outings this year, to the Duke of York at Fir Tree in June, a lovely ride over and a smashing meal to boot.

In October we dined at Headlam Hall. A wonderful meal in beautiful surroundings, with David Jackson providing us with a free drink from the bar. Pity I was working!!

November was a trip to Strikes at Northallerton for a light lunch and some early Christmas shopping.

The trips have been helped hugely with funding from the office, which meant we could include some of our frailer members by getting a taxi direct to the venue. So nice to be able to do that.

We have our usual monthly raffle and games of bingo, it's rare to have a 'quiet' week.

Thanks, must go to our drivers, Andy Hinchcliffe who always goes above and beyond his driving duties, to Kelly at Hodgsons for her patience-and their drivers; and to David at Figgy Bus who has fit in seamlessly with the lunch club driving.

To the staff in the office, Madeleine, Tracy and Pat for your never-ending support and calming influence despite the workload you all have.

To Mark from us all, so great to have you on the team, great food, sense of humour and nothing is too much trouble. Did I mention the great food?! Thank-you.

Lastly but importantly, thanks to the volunteers, who rock up week after week to basically run the show, because let's face it, without them, the lunch clubs wouldn't run.
